Purpose: The Assistant Buyer - Luxury Fashion provides operational support to the buyer of luxury fashion categories by contributing to merchandise selection in line with market trends, margin objectives, and broader strategic direction of the company. This role manages both Duty Free and Duty Paid operational tasks while maintaining accurate product data and fostering strong vendor relationships within the luxury fashion segment.

Essential Functions:

  • Interacts with vendors to gather item setup details, resolve issues, and manage product purchasing while acting as liaison between buyers and vendors to address out-of-stock situations, cost adjustments, and new product selections
  • Uploads purchase order templates into SAP using vendor suggestions or internal forecasts; resolves upload errors via SNOW (IT) ticketing system and adjusts POs based on vendor feedback regarding delays or out-of-stock items
  • Tracks order status and ensures timely delivery and processing of key shipments while serving as primary point of contact for PO uploads and vendor communications
  • Generates weekly and monthly selling reports to support business analysis; runs stock/sales reports to identify reorder opportunities and executes ZART reports for price validation and checks
  • Collaborates with Master Data to implement cost and retail changes; submits SNOW (IT) tickets to update site listings, article descriptions, classifications, and product hierarchy to maintain clean and accurate product data
  • Finalizes new article submissions from vendors and extends articles and vendor profiles between Duty Paid and Duty Free systems to ensure compliance and smooth transitions across channels
  • Develops working knowledge of merchandise selection, negotiation, pricing, and store merchandising specific to luxury fashion categories
  • Reviews and analyzes daily/weekly reports to highlight noteworthy achievements or concerns to the relevant buyer while ensuring reporting accuracy to support strategic decision-making
  • Assists in plan-o-gram development and product availability planning for new store openings within luxury fashion categories
  • Supports special projects related to order management, vendor transitions, and luxury fashion category initiatives

Reporting Relationship: The Assistant Buyer - Luxury Fashion reports to the Category Director

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment:

  • Education and Experience: The combination of education and professional experience must exceed 3 years:
  • In a technical role: Requires 3 years of retail experience engaged in delivering buying programs, ideally in merchandising or luxury retail environments
  • A bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or management program related to the functional area can count for 1 of the 3-year requirement
  • Specialized Training:
  • Training that leads to strong understanding of luxury fashion buying functions and market dynamics
  • Training in financial tools and understanding of concept profitability with ability to interpret and apply market trend information
  • Knowledge of SAP and SNOW systems preferred
  • Specialized Skillset/Competencies/Traits:
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, with commitment to data accuracy
  • Experience with SAP and SNOW systems preferred for luxury retail operations
  • Strong business acumen with strategic mindset to understand long-term implications of buying decisions in luxury fashion markets
  • Proven ability to balance business needs, stakeholder expectations, and operational realities
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities with ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Demonstrated history of understanding the needs of the business, stakeholders, the employee population, and individual circumstances

  • Location/Travel:
  • This position is based at the North America Support Center in East Rutherford, NJ
  • Requires up to 15% travel to branch locations
