Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Promotes and assures a safe operation of all vehicles and develops a safety-first culture in the department. The Trucking Manager/Dispatcher will ensure that the daily operation of the transportation equipment meets the service and efficiency standards of the Company. This position will develop and communicate trucking schedules to the Commercial Vehicle Operators (CVOs) that maximizes revenue and minimizes expenses safely and legally in accordance with Federal, State and Company regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Supervision of assigned CVOs to include counseling, hiring, and terminations.
  • Communicate all aspects of a shipment assignment to CVOs clearly, concisely and with professional respect.
  • Logistical planning for profitable and effective deliveries to customers.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance, approving invoices related to commercial vehicles maintenance in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain driver log(s), records and qualifications for commercial driving in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
  • Performance Reviews for CVOs.
  • Overseeing DOT regulations in a safe and legal aspect (Hours of Service/Federal Regulations/Training).
  • Review of CVO accidents and any related necessary retraining.
  • Administrative functions including billing of work orders and timekeeping/approval for departments payroll.
  • Develop, propose and implement approved processes for managing trucking department time and billing costs.
  • Keeps Store Managers and Service Managers informed of daily progress and accomplishments regarding trucking requests.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and adhere to company safety program at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience : Individual should have an Associate degree or 2 years of relevant industry (truck fleet) experience. Should be able to set work priorities and work independently in the absence of supervision and be able to understand and carryout oral and written directions. Individual must have the ability to maintain high degree of motivation in team members to retain the focus of providing the highest level of customer satisfaction. Must have strong leadership skills, interpersonal and communication skills. The individual should have minimum of six months of related experience, steady work record, and must be able to perform each of the essential position functions. Knowledge of all Federal HOS, Safety, and Regulatory issues in transportation.

  • Ability to get around the dealership and grounds for various tasks.
  • The employee would normally lift or move up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lifts or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to tolerate up and down movement with bending or stooping including reaching above and below shoulder height with arms and hands.
  • Must be able to sit a minimum of 8 hours per day, perform keyboard operations a minimum of 6 hours per day, and must be able to stand and climb stairs as required.
  • Ability to climb step up to 25 high.
  • Must meet health assessment requirements.
