Kelly Science & Clinical is seeking a Technical Service Representative near Elgin, IL.

Direct Hire

Shift: Monday – Friday 7am-4pm

Compensation: $75,000 - $85,000/year DOE

Travel: ~20% (Primarily Eastern U.S.); company vehicle and travel expenses covered

About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on Technical Service Representative to support customers across the Eastern U.S. by conducting product testing, troubleshooting application issues, and providing lab-based technical support. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about practical science, enjoys solving technical problems, and is comfortable working in both laboratory and industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing and evaluation of customer product samples (e.g., coil-coated metal panels).

• Analyze test results and propose formulation adjustments or process improvements.

• Conduct physical property tests such as:

• Pencil hardness

• MEK resistance

• Scratch resistance

• Flexibility/adhesion testing

• Generate detailed technical service reports and customer visit call reports.

• Visit customer sites (~20% travel), provide on-site technical assistance, and maintain strong client relationships.

• Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required:

• 2–5 years of experience in a chemical, industrial coatings, or manufacturing environment.

• Comfort working in industrial/factory settings, including PPE requirements (steel-toed shoes, hard hat, etc.).

• Strong communication skills—both verbal and written.

• Valid driver's license and ability to travel on short notice (minimum 48-hour notice preferred).

Preferred:

• Experience with industrial paints, especially coil coating or spray applications.

• Familiarity with quality testing methods in coatings or materials science.

• Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).

Work Environment and Schedule

• Standard lab hours: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM (flexibility allowed based on travel schedule).

• Travel primarily within the U.S. east of the Mississippi River.

• Most travel is short-term (1–2 days maximum per trip).

• Expense reimbursement provided; potential for company card based on travel frequency.
