Manufacturing Engineer (Automation)

As a Manufacturing Engineer for American Motion Systems (AMS), you will complete key automation projects, manage project schedules, oversee new tool implementation, and drive innovation through cutting-edge manufacturing process development—all while collaborating closely with our internal Engineering team to deliver exceptional results.

ARE YOU:

  • EXPERIENCED WITH AUTOMATION PROJECTS. You are comfortable planning, managing, and completing projects that involve motion control, programing, electrical schematic design, and documentation
  • A PROACTIVE AND SELF-STARTER. You take the initiative to identify new process improvement opportunities, collaborate with internal stakeholders to find solutions independently after the initial shadowing process, and manage tasks with minimal supervision
  • DETAIL ORIENTED AND RESPONSIBLE. You take full responsibility for maintaining a clean, organized work environment and consistently go above and beyond, putting in extra effort when needed to ensure efficiency

ESSENTIAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:

Within the first 30-90 days:

  • Shadow key individuals on the engineering and manufacturing team, gaining firsthand experience in motor design and manufacturing while simultaneously learning AMS's machinery, tools, and capabilities
  • Complete small, predetermined projects as assigned by engineering management
  • Attend weekly meetings and begin to identify new unidentified opportunities for improvement to manufacturing efficiency
  • Begin to learn the different software and programs that AMS utilizes, how/when to properly use it, find necessary information, etc. (i.e., Syteline, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Microsoft Office, etc.)

4-6 months and ongoing:

  • Conducts research on New Product Introduction (NPI) requirements to make informed decisions regarding the acquisition of suitable equipment and tooling, subsequently submitting findings to the Engineering Management for review

  • Visits vendors (machine, equipment, tool suppliers) as necessary to gain insight into equipment capabilities and functionality. Brings back learnings to share with the technicians and Engineering Management for developed usage of machinery, tooling, and equipment
  • By the 6-month mark, is fully independent in the role and has completed at least 1 high level automation project

7-12 months and ongoing:

  • Identifies, analyzes and proposes new high level manufacturing improvement projects to management
  • Drives internal process improvements by completing 3-5 major projects by the end of their first year
  • Able to review new designs and provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) feedback to the Design Engineering team, define tooling requirements, and identify gaps in capability
  • Receives inquiries from the design team, assesses the feasibility of the job, provides labor cost estimates, and ensures readiness to proceed with the manufacturing process if the job aligns with the team's capabilities

EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 2+ years' experience in a manufacturing & automation experience position or similar role required
  • At least 1+ year working experience as an intern or engineering role within a component manufacturing/machining environment or related industry such as medical, aerospace, or machining required
  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering or related field required
  • Experience with electrical circuits, PLC programing, motion control, statistical analysis required
  • Experience with either AutoCAD or SolidWorks required (similar CAD software's are acceptable)
  • Proficiency with programming in ladder logic and structured text preferred
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and electrical schematics required
