Job Description

Civil Engineer

Job Summary:

A leading firm in the Architecture, Structural & Civil Engineering industry is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Civil Engineer with at least 5 years of relevant experience . This role involves working on infrastructure, site development, and transportation-related projects .

The position requires working three days per week in either the New York, NY or Princeton, NJ office, with the flexibility to work two days remotely . The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and experience managing multiple projects while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering & Design:

  • Perform civil engineering design, analysis, and calculations for infrastructure, land development, and transportation projects.
  • Develop engineering drawings, specifications, and reports following industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct site assessments, feasibility studies, and evaluations to determine project viability and constraints.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations , including permitting and environmental requirements.

Project Management & Coordination:

  • Collaborate with internal teams, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Assist in preparing project proposals, cost estimates, and schedules .
  • Monitor project progress to ensure timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
  • Support senior engineers and project managers in delivering high-quality engineering solutions.

Field Work & Travel:

  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and surveys as needed to assess project conditions and progress.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including reviewing contractor submittals and responding to RFIs .

Technical Documentation & Compliance:

  • Prepare technical reports, permit applications, and engineering documents .
  • Ensure all designs comply with industry codes, safety standards, and project-specific requirements .
  • Work with regulatory agencies to obtain necessary approvals and permits.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in infrastructure, site development, or transportation projects .
  • NJ Department of Transportation (NJDOT) design experience required.
  • Experience working with highways required.
  • Willingness to travel locally (infrequently) to field offices .
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or similar engineering software .
  • Strong understanding of civil design principles, stormwater management, grading, and utility design .
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations, including NJDOT and local municipal codes .
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills .
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities .
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Prior experience with municipal, commercial, or transportation infrastructure projects .
  • Experience with NYSDOT and AASHTO standards.
