Our defense manufacturing client is seeking a Weld Trainer to join their team in Ladson, SC.
The Weld Trainer supports the scoping and execution of key training within welding operations. Facilitate and lead manufacturing process improvements.
- Develop and implement career development strategies for welders across all company welding operations.
- Design and execute training programs aligned with corporate strategy, ensuring skill advancement and retention.
- Drive process-focused solutions in welding and manufacturing to optimize operating and labor costs while enhancing product quality.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within welding operations and assist in recruiting top talent through internal and external efforts.
- Ensure newly hired welders transition into full-time positions within four weeks of hire.
- Collaborate with Plant Managers and HR to maintain accurate Cross-Training Matrices.
- Mentor new employees, complete onboarding checklists, and provide initial guidance and support.
- Develop and deliver training materials for various welding processes, ensuring alignment with company key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Serve as a liaison with Mechanical Engineers to plan and execute manufacturing improvements.
- Implement and document cost reduction and efficiency improvements each quarter.
- Ensure training programs are continuously updated to meet company needs and incorporate hands-on, project-based learning methodologies.
- Foster a positive and engaging learning environment, providing necessary support and tutoring.
- Enforce company policies, including safety and quality standards.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong organizational, communication, and team-building skills.
- Extensive experience in designing, developing, and implementing industrial training and education programs, with a focus on lean manufacturing and weld recruitment.
- Expert knowledge of the manufacturing and welding industry, including blueprint reading and welding symbols.
- Proven ability to teach, mentor, and inspire future welders while driving manufacturing improvements based on data analysis.
- Hands-on proficiency in welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, STICK, FLUX, and cutting processes (OFC, Plasma, Arc Gouging).
- Skilled in evaluating employee performance in both learning and hands-on applications.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, database systems, and other relevant software.
- Supports and contributes to the company’s Quality Program through various operational tasks.
Requirements
- Requires an Associate’s degree from an accredited college, university, or technical school, along with 10 years of industrial and manufacturing experience (welding preferred).
- A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in place of these requirements.
- Travel may be required as needed between company facilities to support training, development, and operational initiatives.
