Traveling Medical Assistant
Summary This position is for a Traveling Medical Assistant working on a Mobile Medical Unit, shared spaces and assisting in clinics covering gaps in staffing needs. The role involves traveling to various locations to provide medical support and assistance as part of a mobile healthcare team. The Medical Assistant performs both administrative and clinical tasks in a mobile setting, ensuring smooth operations and quality care delivery in diverse environments.
Duties and Functions
Clinical Duties - Take vital signs (blood pressure and pulse)
- Prepare claimants for examination (Electrocardiogram testing/Pulmonary Function Testing)
- Draw blood for lab tests
- Perform Pulmonary Function Testing
- Perform Electrocardiogram – upload for official reading
- Calibrate equipment (Pulmonary Function machine – daily, AED – monthly)
- Chaperone claimants during examinations
- Adapt clinical procedures to mobile unit constraints and varying site conditions
Administrative Duties - Check-in/Check-out claimants at mobile unit locations
- Enter orders for diagnostic testing (labs/sleep study/X-rays/PFTs)
- Review medical records across multiple locations
- Answer phone calls and greet claimants in a mobile setting
- Manage mobile clinic flow and logistics
- Maintain medical supplies (order as inventory is low and remove expiring/expired items)
- Ensure secure handling of medical records and equipment during travel
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited medical assistance
certification program preferred
- Up-to-date BLS certification
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA) - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with claimants effectively in diverse settings
- Strong attention to detail for accurate record review and documentation
- Basic understanding of medical terminology
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively while traveling
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems
- Ability to follow established medical protocols and safety guidelines in mobile environments
Work Environment/Condition
Flexibility and adaptability to travel and work in various geographic locations
Physical Demands
The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach forward with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift or move 50 lbs. The employee may be required to transfer and/or treat those who are wheelchair bound.
