Starting salary - £49,385 (£61,731 fte) rising to £51,983 (£64,979 fte) per annum plus agile working and an attractive benefits package

Our range of excellent benefits include *39 days holiday allowance including bank holidays in addition to 4 days Christmas closure, *21 hours wellbeing leave, wellbeing contribution, generous pension scheme and commitment to personal growth through funded learning.

Job summary

Are you passionate about supporting education professionals with expert pensions advice? Do you have deep knowledge of public sector pension schemes and a strong background in employment or pensions law? If so, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re seeking a committed and knowledgeable individual to join our team as a Specialist Adviser, Pensions. In this role, you’ll provide expert advice, support and representation to our members—senior education professionals—on a wide range of pensions-related issues, including early and phased retirement, scheme benefits, and a range of general employment issues related to conditions of service. You’ll also support colleagues across the organisation, including the policy team, to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery.

This is a remote role with occasional travel and overnight stays required. If you’re passionate about making a difference in the education sector and using your pensions, HR or employment law skills in a trade union environment this role could be for you.

Person specification

We are looking for someone with substantial experience in pensions, employment law, education, or human resources—ideally with a background in public sector pensions such as the Teachers’ Pension Scheme or Local Government Pension Scheme.

You’ll need:

  • Strong advocacy and casework skills, with a track record of resolving complex issues.
  • Excellent communication and analytical abilities.
  • A proactive, solution-focused approach and the ability to work independently.
  • A commitment to equality, diversity, and the values of the trade union movement.

     

You must be flexible, able to travel and stay away overnight as required, and confident in delivering training and guidance to both members and colleagues.
