Job Description

Job Title: Teacher for Neurodivergent Children (Autism Spectrum)

Location: Belmont, CA / South Bay

Salary: $150,000

Overview: We are starting a new school dedicated to providing specialized education for neurodivergent children, particularly those with moderate to severe Autism Spectrum Disorder. Our school will initially serve up to five children with a team comprising at least three teachers, one Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), one Occupational Therapist (OT), a Head of School, and a Clinical Care Coordinator. We are aiming for a 1:1 ratio so that we may best serve our students' individual needs. Our school is a scholarship-based institution aiming to build and grow each year. We are committed to providing a high-quality education and support system for neurodivergent children, starting with kindergarten-aged students (5-6 years old). While we will not be accredited in our first year, we are dedicated to establishing a strong foundation for future accreditation.

Position Overview: We are seeking compassionate and dedicated teachers to join our team. Ideal candidates will have a background in early childhood education and special education, though we are open to individuals without formal credentials who possess the right qualities and are willing to learn. Our goal is to create a nurturing and supportive environment for our students.

Responsibilities:

  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages langauge, behavioral, social, emotional, and academic growth.
  • Collaborate with SLP, OT, and PT to integrate therapeutic activities into the daily curriculum.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and communication abilities.

Collaborate with speciality teachers, including sculpture, art, movement, and dance to provide a sensory and artistic aspect to the curriculum.

  • Conduct regular assessments to monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to autism spectrum disorders.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, caregivers, and other stakeholders to provide updates on student progress and address any concerns.

Qualifications:

  • Background in early childhood education and/or special education preferred.
  • Experience working with children on the autism spectrum, ideally those with moderate to severe autism, including non and minimally verbally children.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of neurodivergent students.

Ability to work as a team, being overseen by a clinical care coordinator.
