Job Description:

Overview: The Shipping and Receiving Specialist is responsible for managing the flow of goods in and out of a company's warehouse or distribution center. This role involves coordinating shipping and receiving activities, ensuring that inventory is accurately tracked, and maintaining high standards of efficiency and accuracy in the handling of products.

Key Responsibilities:

Shipping Duties:

  • Prepare and process outgoing shipments, including packing, labeling, and documentation.
  • Coordinate with carriers to schedule pickups and deliveries.
  • Verify shipping details, including addresses and product quantities.
  • Generate and review shipping documents such as bills of lading, packing slips, and shipping labels.
  • Ensure compliance with shipping regulations and company policies.

Receiving Duties:

  • Receive and inspect incoming shipments for accuracy, quality, and damage.
  • Unload trucks and containers using manual or mechanized means.
  • Verify received goods against purchase orders and packing lists.
  • Record and report discrepancies or damaged goods.
  • Update inventory systems with received items and ensure proper storage.

Inventory Management:

  • Conduct regular inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies.
  • Maintain organized storage areas for easy access and retrieval of products.
  • Implement and enforce inventory control measures to prevent loss and ensure accuracy.
  • Assist in inventory audits and cycle counts as required.

Customer Service:

  • Provide accurate and timely information regarding shipping and receiving status to internal departments and external customers.
  • Address and resolve issues related to shipments, deliveries, or inventory in a professional manner.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for shipping, receiving, and handling hazardous materials, if applicable.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the shipping and receiving areas.

Record Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of shipping and receiving transactions.
  • Prepare and file reports as required by management or regulatory bodies.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is a plus.
  • Proven experience in shipping, receiving, or warehousing, preferably in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of shipping and receiving procedures, inventory management, and safety regulations.
  • Proficiency in using inventory management software and shipping systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with team members and other departments.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and other warehouse equipment (certification may be required).
  • Physical stamina and capability to lift and move heavy items as needed.

Work Environment:

  • The role typically requires working in a warehouse or distribution center environment.
