This is not a lobbying role—it’s a communications-driven position focused on connecting members and Chapters to advocacy initiatives through clear messaging, storytelling, and engagement strategies. You’ll serve as a bridge between national legislative efforts and local action, ensuring IEC’s advocacy work is impactful, visible, and aligned with its strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Facilitate issue identification and prioritization with members, leadership, and Chapters
  • Co-develop the national advocacy agenda with IEC leadership
  • Oversee budget planning and compliance related to advocacy and PAC activity
  • Manage advocacy-related dashboards and reporting
  • Coordinate with legal and public affairs teams for crisis communication

Committee Engagement

  • Serve as staff liaison to IEC’s Government Affairs Committee and PAC/Freedom Fund Committee
  • Plan and manage committee meetings, agendas, and follow-up actions
  • Translate complex legislative developments into actionable updates for members
  • Lead PAC strategy, including fundraising, donor engagement, and event execution
  • Manage third-party vendors and platforms supporting legislative tracking and advocacy

Advocacy Communications & Fundraising

  • Lead the creation of advocacy-related content (e.g., newsletters, press releases, blogs, toolkits) in collaboration with the marketing team
  • Develop and implement advocacy campaign strategies across social media and member platforms in conjunction with the IEC Marketing team
  • Oversee mobilization platforms and grassroots tools like Voter Voice
  • Ensure messaging consistency and clarity across communications

Member & Chapter Support

  • Create advocacy resources and training materials, including toolkits and policy briefings
  • Provide guidance to IEC Chapters on state and national issues to maintain message alignment
  • Act as liaison between national advocacy efforts and Chapter-level engagement

Events & Education

  • Plan and manage government affairs programming for IEC events, including the Annual Conference and Policy Conference
  • Coordinate Capitol Hill Day and other advocacy recognition initiatives
  • Develop educational content to inform and activate members on key legislative issues

Basic Qualifications:

• 7+ years of experience in public affairs, association management, or advocacy communications

• Deep understanding of the policymaking landscape in Washington, DC, particularly as it pertains to trade associations

• Proven writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to make complex topics understandable

• Experience managing committees, volunteers, and external vendors

• Strong communication and project management skills

• Familiarity with tools such as Voter Voice, Congress.gov, and other advocacy platforms

• Knowledge of the merit shop philosophy and/or the electrical contracting industry is a plus

• Collaborative mindset with experience working across legal, communications, and leadership teams
