About Us We are an international consulting firm specializing in engineering and technical services. We are currently seeking a
Safety Supervisor to join our team for a major tunneling and heavy civil infrastructure project in
New Jersey, USA. Location: New Jersey side of the Hudson River, in North Bergen and other areas of Hudson County, United States (on-site)
Schedule: Monday to Friday – 9-hour shifts (1-hour lunch). Occasional night, weekend, or overtime work may be required depending on project needs.
Duration: Initially 6 months, with the possibility of extension depending on project progress. Upon completion, we will seek to provide continuity in other projects.
Role Overview The Safety Supervisor will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and enforcing the project’s Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) program on site. This role ensures compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company safety policies. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting a strong safety culture and continuous improvement across a large-scale tunneling and infrastructure project.
Key Responsibilities - Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining site-specific safety plans, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct daily site inspections, safety walks, and hazard assessments to ensure compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926.
- Monitor high-risk operations including tunneling, drilling, confined spaces, lifting, blasting, heavy equipment, and electrical works.
- Facilitate Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and toolbox talks with crews and supervisors.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and prepare reports with corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate safety documentation (permits, records, logs, audits, reports).
- Deliver training and orientations for staff and subcontractors on safety practices and emergency procedures.
- Collaborate with engineers, superintendents, and subcontractors to proactively identify and mitigate risks.
- Support compliance with environmental and occupational health requirements (dust, noise, ventilation, confined spaces).
- Promote a “zero incident” culture by engaging workers, recognizing safe behavior, and addressing unsafe acts immediately.
Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of professional safety experience in heavy civil construction; tunneling or large-scale infrastructure strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards; familiarity with MSHA and DOT regulations is a plus.
- Professional certifications preferred (e.g., CHST, CSP, OSHA 30-Hour Construction).
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and train diverse teams.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, underground environments, and challenging site conditions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety reporting systems.
- English proficiency at B2 level or higher (CEFR standard).
- Valid permit to work in the United States.
