Position Overview

Ultimate Staffing Services is actively seeking a talented Process Engineer to join their client's team in California. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and driving continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing processes, techniques, and methodologies. This role requires the application of analytical tools, statistical methods, and lean manufacturing principles to enhance production efficiency, reduce waste, and ensure product quality. The Process Engineer will play a key role in aligning operations with organizational goals to achieve customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain programs to support production reporting; provide clear process instructions for manufacturing teams.
  • Design and optimize manufacturing workflows; create and update manufacturing instructions for processes, assembly, and rework.
  • Improve yield and product quality by increasing process efficiency, reducing scrap, and minimizing cycle times; determine and set headcount requirements.
  • Ensure process quality through proactive improvements rather than reactive inspections.
  • Respond quickly to sample or prototype requests to support fast-turn production.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to support procurement and supply chain activities related to engineering builds.
  • Prepare and publish DFX reports and yield analysis in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Support the transfer of new products, processes, tooling, and technologies across sites.
  • Track and manage process development timelines, ensuring all activities align with product introduction schedules.
  • Independently resolve a range of moderately complex issues using sound judgment and established procedures.
  • Collaborate regularly with cross-functional teams and management to align objectives and drive progress.
  • Set and achieve engineering goals that support broader operational initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 1-5 years of hands-on process engineering experience in a PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of SMT, PTH, mechanical assembly, and system build processes.
  • Familiarity with PCB laminates, lead-free soldering, cleaning, conformal coating, and robotic dispensing.
  • Hands-on experience with solder printers, SPI, AOI, AXI, wave soldering, and BGA rework equipment.
  • Proficiency in soldering materials, temperature profiling, and process debugging, aligned with IPC and J-STD standards.
  • Skilled in statistical methods such as SPC, GRR, DOE for problem-solving and process capability assessments.
  • Experience with equipment qualification and process validation (IQ, OQ, PQ).
  • Knowledge of PPAP requirements and supplier root cause analysis processes.
  • Strong math, computer, and analytical skills in an electronics manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing; Green or Black Belt certification is a plus.
  • Self-motivated, hands-on, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
