Job Description

Description A San Francisco-based healthcare nonprofit is seeking an Interim Legal Operations Manager to provide critical support to its in-house legal and compliance functions during a transitional period. This is a project-based role focused on litigation tracking, legal request process improvement, and vendor contract compliance. The ideal candidate will have experience working cross-functionally in a healthcare or nonprofit environment and be comfortable managing legal operations independently. Key Responsibilities + Track and maintain oversight of all open litigation matters and significant legal disputes involving the organization. + Serve as the internal liaison between organizational leadership and external counsel. + Coordinate the collection of documents, monitor case progression, and ensure leadership is kept informed of developments, settlement discussions, or trial decisions. + Prevent delays or internal bottlenecks in litigation support processes. + Evaluate current processes for receiving and responding to subpoenas, court orders, search warrants, and investigations. + Identify procedural gaps, risks, or inefficiencies, and recommend corrective actions. + Develop standardized workflows, internal protocols, and training resources for staff across departments. + Ensure all legal requests are tracked, authorized, and documented in a timely and compliant manner. + Review current contract management practices and ensure all critical vendor agreements are up to date and properly stored. + Focus on high-risk contracts such as Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) for HIPAA compliance. + Monitor compliance requirements including insurance certificates, licenses, and renewal dates. + Collaborate with procurement and finance to strengthen vendor risk management processes, including due diligence and performance monitoring. Requirements Qualifications + 5-8+ years of experience in legal operations, risk management, or compliance within an in-house legal department, healthcare organization, or nonprofit setting + Strong working knowledge of litigation processes and experience coordinating with outside counsel + Demonstrated success implementing or improving internal processes related to subpoenas, legal requests, or regulatory inquiries + Familiarity with healthcare-related compliance requirements, including HIPAA and Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) + Experience managing vendor contracts, tracking renewals, and monitoring compliance documentation (e.g., insurance certificates, licenses) + Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to drive cross-functional initiatives independently + Clear and professional communication skills, including the ability to translate legal and compliance requirements into operational protocols + JD, paralegal certificate, or equivalent legal background strongly preferred but not required if the candidate has substantial in-house legal operations experience Robert Half is the world's first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
