Job Description

Goodwill Industries of Kentucky is hiring a Lead Teacher support an unprecedented educational initiative that will address critical workforce challenges in the state’s largest city. The Lead Teacher holds primary responsibility for the ongoing development, implementation, and assessment of an Excel Center’s instructional delivery. This role will provide instructional leadership to teachers, coaches, and administrative support staff at The Excel Center. The Lead Teacher will work effectively across the organization to make certain that students are supported in a way that ensures success both academically and in alignment with postsecondary goals. The school – better known as an Excel Center – provides a tuition free opportunity for Kentuckians 18 years of age and older who have dropped out of high school to earn a diploma in a unique environment that caters to the life demands they now face as adults. To help its adult students succeed in earning their diplomas, the Excel Center features: flexible 8-week class schedules, free on-site childcare, transportation assistance, industry-recognized certification options, and career coaches who help graduates transition into college or meaningful careers.

Essential Duties and Tasks:

  • Supervision and development of instructional staff, in-depth analysis of learning outcomes, and identification of internal and external academic supports for all students.
  • Demonstrate a relentless drive to improve education and career outcomes for all Excel Center students.
  • Participate in the development of overall educational strategies for the Excel Center, including but not limited to design and implementation of curriculum and systems to assess student outcomes.
  • Train, orient, and update instructional staff on course sequence, curricular systems, and key instructional issues.
  • Help teachers develop instructional strategies and intervention plans that support growth and increase achievement among struggling students.
  • Teach at least one core class to model instructional excellence for staff.
  • Work in collaboration with Director and Lead Life Coach to execute effective course scheduling within student management system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in subject specialty.
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years teaching experience post-licensing, three to five (3-5) years preferred.
  • Current Kentucky Teaching License required.
  • Current Kentucky Secondary Administrator’s License preferred but not required.
  • Two (2) or more years working in classrooms and coaching teachers, preferably with high-need students.
  • Must have proficient verbal and written skills appropriate for a professional environment, ability to communicate direct feedback in a compelling way that empowers teachers to make immediate improvements to instruction.

Physical Demands:

  • This job may have physical requirements that are considered sedentary work. Sedentary work involves sitting for long periods of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking, hearing, and visual acuity and occasional lifting to 15 pounds.
  • Travel to other locations beyond the assigned work location is occasionally required.
