Job title: Lab Informatics Specialist

Location: Onsite (4-5 days per week) in the Durham/Morrisville, NC area

Position: Contract to hire (C2C NOT AVAILABLE)

Position Overview

We’re looking for a Lab Informatics Specialist to support and enhance a scientific data management platform used by a laboratory operations group. This role combines technical development, system configuration, and end-user support, with a focus on improving workflows, data integrity, and compliance. The specialist will partner across scientific, IT, and business teams to deliver sustainable solutions and lead projects that make a real impact on lab productivity.

Day-to-Day Focus

• Data Analysis (~20%) : Perform data exploration and reporting; leverage scripting/programming to provide insights and fulfill requests.
• System Development & Configuration (~60%) :
• Gather requirements and deliver solutions via configuration updates, integrations, custom forms, and reporting.
• Configure system modules, manage installations, and connect with lab instruments and enterprise systems.
• Build workflows, templates, automations, and retention policies.
• Configure APIs and middleware for seamless integration with other platforms (LIMS, ERP, etc.).
• Lead small to medium system enhancement or migration projects.
• End User Support (~20%) : Act as a liaison between users, leadership, IT, and vendors. Create SOPs, procedures, and knowledge articles to drive system adoption and compliance.

Must-Have Experience

• 2+ years working directly with Waters NuGenesis (LMS required; exposure to ELN Smart Builder, JasperReports, and SDK preferred).
• 2+ years working in a regulated laboratory environment (GxP).
• Solid SQL scripting and relational database experience.
• Hands-on with scripting/automation (VBScript, PowerShell, XML; plus exposure to Python, .NET, or JavaScript).
• Familiarity with validation/documentation processes (CSV, UAT, SOPs).
• Ability to support users in virtual client environments (e.g., VMware, Citrix).

Preferred / Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with additional LIMS/ELN platforms (LabWare, STARLIMS, Empower, TotalChrom, etc.).
• Background in automation of repetitive workflows using tools like Python, Excel VBA, or GUI scripting (AHK or similar).
• Experience developing custom reports, forms, or templates to meet lab or business requirements.
• Exposure to Linux systems, Git version control, and agile development practices.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to balance technical depth and end-user experience.
