Job Description

HOUSING ADVISOR – HOUSING COUNSELOR

Job purpose

Provides prepurchase counseling to assist clients in becoming mortgage ready for homeownership and to improve the financial stability of Homeport residents; provides financial counseling to residents; facilitates education workshops; and engages in community outreach to promote successful homeownership for low to moderate income working families.

Duties and responsibilities

· Classroom Education

· Develops curriculum, secures speakers, and facilitates education programs for clients and Homeport residents.

· Teaches education classes.

· Alternative work schedules are required, to include evenings and weekends, based on business needs.

· Client Homebuyer & Financial Counseling

· Pulls and analyzes client individual credit reports to determine credit quality and debt to income ratios; creates individual spending plans.

· Counsels’ clients to advise on becoming mortgage ready to include creating savings plans and action plans to achieve the goal of homeownership.

· Provides post purchase counseling.

· Proactively counsels with clients and provides strategies to prevent foreclosure on their homes.

· Provides counseling by telephone, Zoom or in-person.

· Documentation

· Maintains attendance records and documentation of all client interactions in CounselorMax database.

· conducts follow-up contacts with lenders and clients to determine outcomes of education and counseling provided.

COMMUNITY OURTREACH AND MARKETING

· Attends public speaking events to promote Homeport, Housing Advisory Services, and down payment assistance programs.

· Participates in community networking opportunities.

· Participates in identifying opportunities to provide information to the Homeport residents and public about Housing Advisory Services programs.

Qualifications/Skills/Abilities

Education and Experience

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school preferred.
  • 3-5 years of previous work experience in the field of housing counseling or lending.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.
  • HUD counseling certification a plus.
  • HECM counseling certification a plus.

Required

  • Strong problem/conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong oral/written communication skills.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Experience in handling negotiations and providing appropriate solutions.
  • Attention to detail and strong administrative skills.

Licensing and Certification

· Current HUD counseling certification preferred. Ability to obtain HUD certification required within 90 days of hire.

Ability to work a nonstandard work week and/or work evening hour, may be required. There may be occasion travel on company and/or personal time as well as work at various locations. This position requires a reliable, personal means of transportation. The individual in this position must hold and maintain Ohio driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
