Job Description

At Evvy, we believe the female body shouldn’t be a medical mystery. We’re closing the gender health gap through novel biomarker discovery in the vaginal microbiome.

Evvy’s groundbreaking Vaginal Health Test is the world’s only certified, peer-reviewed test to uncover 700+ microbes with a single, at-home swab. Combined with precision treatment pathways and 1-1 coaching, Evvy provides over 50,000 women with data-driven, personalized healthcare for vaginal infections, fertility, menopause, and more. Evvy has built the world’s largest dataset on the vaginal microbiome, and they are pioneering research across infertility, preterm birth, gynecological cancers, and more.

Why join now? We’re growing fast and moving faster. Now is the time to shape the future with us.

  • High impact at scale: We’ve served tens of thousands of patients, our reach is rapidly growing, and we hear daily stories about how Evvy changed someone’s life.
  • Industry-leading data platform: Our precision test & care platform gets smarter every day — giving our team access to proprietary, large scale women’s health data to power novel research discoveries and AI-driven, personalized experiences.
  • Top tier team: Backed by leading investors such as General Catalyst, Left Lane, and LabCorp, the Evvy team brings together expert innovators across engineering, design, AI, medicine, microbiology, and more.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Head of Engineering who is product-minded, relentlessly driven, and exceptionally resourceful. You’ll report directly to the CEO and own the technical vision for Evvy — transforming business and product goals into a tangible, technical roadmap. You’ll lead the strategic vision and technical execution, ensuring our team, processes, and technology scale with us as we grow from series A to series B and beyond.

If you thrive in a high-growth startup environment — balancing scrappiness with structure and scale — then this role is for you. This is a unique opportunity to build solutions that deliver real impact on women’s health and to build the dream team to achieve this along the way.

What you’ll own:

Technical Vision & Execution

  • Translating company vision to a technical vision and roadmap across engineering and data.
  • Defining and implementing scalable architecture for Evvy’s platform, ensuring alignment with company goals and adaptability as we grow.
  • Connecting long-term product strategy with short-term engineering execution, ensuring that each build decision ladders up to strategic impact. You will see the bigger picture while understanding all the nitty gritty details.
  • Establishing and upholding best practices around architecture, quality, security, and scalability to support fast, reliable development.
  • Taking a hands-on approach — whether unblocking the team, designing systems, or contributing code.

Team Leadership & Processes

  • Leading and growing a high-performing engineering organization, driving culture, mentorship, and professional development across the team (currently team of 4 engineers + 1 data analyst).
  • Championing a strong culture of ownership, velocity, and continuous learning, in addition to a product-centric mindset — ensuring engineering decisions are grounded in user value and business impact.
  • Owning and evolving engineering processes—sprint planning, code review, onboarding, performance management—to drive team efficiency and clarity.
  • Balancing scrappiness and scale, making thoughtful infrastructure investments while supporting rapid product iteration.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners (Product, Design, Clinical, Marketing, Operations, CX) to build systems and experiences that meet user needs and empower our internal teams.
  • Voice of engineering across all levels of the organization, ensuring alignment on priorities, timelines, and goals.
  • Partner with the CEO on headcount planning, hiring, and org design to support evolving product and business needs.
  • Collaborate with research and ML teams to bring R&D algorithms into production environments.

Compliance & IT

  • Manage employee system access and compliance policies related to technology and data access.
  • Consumer data privacy — own Evvy’s vision for data security, ensuring compliance with relevant certifications and driving a roadmap for how we can continue to lead the industry in terms of trust.
  • New tool evaluation — reading & evaluating DPAs and other compliance risks for new tools that would handle sensitive Evvy data (ex: new CX platforms)

Who you are:

  • 10+ years of engineering experience, including 4+ years in engineering leadership roles (managing teams, leading complex projects, hiring and coaching talent)
  • Experience leading at high-growth startups leading engineering from Series A through Series B and beyond.
  • Deep understanding of how to create an engineering culture that is innovative and disciplined (balancing speed and quality) and product-minded (caring deeply about why we build what we build, solving real user problems).
  • Passionate about developing people, mentoring them to achieve both their own professional growth and the company’s objectives.
  • Excellent communicator with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, facilitating clarity and alignment across teams.

It’s a plus if you have:

  • Experience building consumer-facing products, ecommerce platforms, or healthcare-focused technology.
  • Experience collaborating with ML/AI teams to bring AI-powered features to production.
  • Experience architecting systems with our existing or similar tech stacks (e.g., Django, Python, PostgreSQL, React, AWS, and Snowflake) and data-intensive environments.
  • Experience in health tech or other regulated industries where privacy and security are paramount (experience complying HIPAA compliance and other security certifications).

Company Benefits:

  • Flexible PTO
  • $1K annual learning and development budget per employee
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance, plus HSA plans
  • 401k plan (Roth and traditional)
  • Monthly company social events
  • Annual company offsite
  • Free Evvy membership
  • Paid parental leave
  • Evvy is a primarily in-person team based in New York, NY with a strong culture of in-person collaboration and building close relationships. Plus, we have a lot of fun — think team happy hours, dinners, and enjoying the best of NYC together! The ideal candidate is located in NYC and can work in the office 4 days a week (we work from home on Wednesdays).

Evvy is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace and in our hiring process. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
