We’re now seeking a seasoned Fractional CTO to help us scale our platform, guide our tech strategy, and elevate the performance of our engineering function.

Job Overview

Energy Hire is seeking a seasoned Fractional Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to provide strategic and operational technology leadership on a part-time basis. This high-impact role is ideal for an experienced engineering leader with a startup mindset and deep technical fluency across cloud platforms, systems architecture, and product scaling.

You’ll guide our technology roadmap, manage vendor engagements, ensure infrastructure resilience, and collaborate with executive leadership to support rapid growth and high-stakes decision-making. The role is designed for a flexible 10 to 20 hours per week commitment and offers the opportunity to help shape the future of an innovative, mission-driven company in the energy hiring space.

Though this role will begin fractionally, there is potential for it to become a full-time position in the future. Fractionals considering this role, should determine if a potential full-time future is aligned with their goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the company’s overall technology strategy and roadmap
  • Oversee product architecture and prepare systems for scaling
  • Structure engineering execution via vendor teams
  • Evaluate vendors and proposals, performing technical due diligence
  • Implement and enhance cybersecurity practices, including IP protection, user access, and permissions
  • Design for system redundancy and operational resilience
  • Rapidly diagnose and resolve critical technical issues
  • Build and manage technology budgets and forecasts
  • Support high-stakes executive decisions with clear technical insight
  • Deliver strategic and technical presentations to internal and external stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of engineering leadership experience
  • Proven success in software, SaaS, and startup environments
  • Strong understanding of modern infrastructure, cloud platforms, and development tools
  • Hands-on expertise with:
  • Azure DevOps, Amazon AWS, .NET
  • Customer.io , Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics
  • API integrations, system orchestration, and optimization
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • Certifications in Microsoft Azure, .NET, or comparable platforms

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting early-stage startups
  • Experience leading remote and hybrid engineering teams
  • Familiarity with hiring and scaling technical functions in high-growth environments

Time Commitment

Approximately 10 to 20 hours per week expected, billed hourly; schedule is variable and project-dependent
