Job Description

Location: State of Alabama (primarily Florence, Cullman, Decatur, Athens, Muscle Shoals, Gadsden; occasional travel to Auburn, Troy, and Dothan)

Schedule: Typically 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM CST (8-hour workday with 1-hour meal break; aligned with site construction hours)

Travel: Extensive in-state travel required

Expenses Covered: Phone; mileage from site-to-site; mileage and lodging for overnight travel (1–2 times per month)

Position Overview

The Fiber Construction Inspector plays a key role in ensuring quality, compliance, and safety across all fiber construction projects within their assigned territory. This individual will work closely with the Direct Supervisor, internal Operations teams, and external vendors to ensure that construction activities meet company standards, industry codes, and project specifications. The role requires strong communication skills, a high level of organization, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, field-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

Field & Construction Oversight

• Conduct site inspections to ensure fiber construction work complies with company standards, engineering designs, safety guidelines, and local regulations.
• Perform strand mapping , make-ready rides , and post-construction rides with utilities and other partners.
• Provide on-site support during major outages or sensitive network impacts, offering supervision and oversight of internal and external teams.
• Verify the quality of work completed by fiber construction vendor partners and ensure timely correction of deficiencies.

Warehouse, Inventory, and Vendor Support

• Manage warehouse inventory, including tracking materials, equipment, and fiber stock.
• Oversee vendor outfitting for new and ongoing projects.
• Document fiber inventory activity and incident reports in Microsoft CRM and other company systems.

Documentation & Compliance

• Prepare accurate daily and weekly reports, including site notes, photos, and progress updates.
• Maintain construction records, fiber inventory logs, and inspection documentation.
• Assist in updating internal handbooks, policies, and processes to reflect current standards and best practices.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Coordinate with Operations, Engineering, Safety, and other teams to ensure project alignment and problem resolution.
• Communicate construction progress, risks, and issues to management in a timely manner.
• Participate in calls and meetings related to project planning, scheduling, and quality control.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple sites and priorities.
• Basic understanding of web application infrastructure and front-end/database technologies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• High sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
• Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Visio, Outlook).

Experience & Education

• Minimum 3 years of experience in fiber or telecom construction inspection (required).
• Hands-on construction experience highly desired.
• High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (required).
