Role : Engineering Project Manager – Heavy Industry (preference for licensed Professional Engineers)
Location can be any client location in the US including: Bellingham, WA, Billings, MT, Bismarck, ND, Minneapolis, MN, Spokane, WA, Vancouver, WA.
Duration : Fulltime
Salary : $130,000 to $160,000 yearly + benefits
Education, Skills, and Experience
- BS in engineering (chemical or mechanical preferred); preference for licensed Professional Engineers.
- 10+ years of experience, ideally with an engineering background in pulp & paper, petroleum refining, hydrocarbons, high tech, or specialty chemicals. Prior consulting engineering experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of critical path scheduling techniques using Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6, with hands-on project application.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a project manager on capital projects, preferably with small- to medium-sized retrofit projects in a program setting.
- Experience with project work sharing and collaborating with geographically dispersed teams.
- Willingness to travel to domestic job sites as required.
Certifications, Credentials, Licenses & Registrations
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification desirable.
- Must be eligible to obtain or currently hold a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
Responsibilities
- Maintain efficient and effective interaction with the client and project stakeholders, defining and managing expectations.
- Ensure all contractual obligations are fulfilled.
- Focus on client care and monitor client satisfaction; solicit management support and intervention when required.
- Promote company capabilities and work to expand the scope of services where value is provided to the client.
- Review and understand proposals, contracts, and associated risks.
- Manage proprietary and confidential information in accordance with company and client requirements.
- Protect the interests and reputation of both the company and the client.
- Initiate, execute, and deliver the project in alignment with proposals and mutual expectations.
- Develop Work Breakdown Structures for projects.
- Develop the project proposal/execution plan addressing project scope, cost, schedule, risks, and client expectations. Define project organization and coordinate with engineering and design management to obtain necessary resources.
- Establish the division of responsibilities among all involved parties.
- Ensure project team roles and responsibilities are clearly defined.
- Ensure project interfaces are clearly identified and effectively managed.
- Foster an environment in which the team and stakeholders can achieve project objectives.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, managing dependencies, critical path, and deliverables.
- Identify and manage risks; develop and implement mitigation strategies. Document and communicate all risks, actions, issues, decisions, and interfaces.
- Implement change management processes, including forecasting and documenting changes, preparing change requests, and modifying budgets, schedules, and scopes accordingly.
- Communicate ideas clearly and concisely, maintain accurate and organized records, and understand differing perspectives.
- Ensure effective communication of expectations and risks within the project team and organization.
- Manage project information—generation, dissemination, storage, and disposition—appropriately.
- Monitor and report on project status, cost, risks, and quality, allowing for timely corrective action. Provide progress forecasts as needed.
- Plan, manage, and ensure timely submittals of deliverables and client feedback.
- Oversee orderly project closeout, including documentation handover and archiving. Issue closeout reports and capture lessons learned.
- Review and approve client invoices; monitor and expedite payments as needed.
- Execute work in accordance with the contract, scope, client requirements, company practices, and project procedures.
- Plan, organize, and manage resources to meet project goals. Maintain working knowledge of key project processes including engineering, procurement, and construction management.
- Demonstrate strong interdisciplinary engineering knowledge, particularly within phase/stage-gated project frameworks for heavy industry (e.g., Front-End Loading).
- Support personnel development and recognize team and individual achievements.
- Promote a shared vision and effective collaboration across offices and teams.
- Provide clear direction and prioritize tasks; maintain urgency and drive to resolution.
- Set high performance standards and pursue ambitious project goals.
- Encourage open communication, empower others, and support conflict resolution.
