As an Energy Underwriter, you will be responsible for assessing and evaluating risks associated with insuring energy operations, including oil and gas exploration, drilling, production, and related activities. You will work closely with brokers and clients to underwrite and price insurance policies that provide coverage for property damage, business interruption, and liability risks in the upstream energy sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal business submissions for energy accounts, including oil and gas operators, drilling contractors, and service providers.
  • Analyze and assess risks related to property damage, business interruption, and liability exposures in the energy sector.
  • Work closely with brokers and clients to understand their insurance needs and provide tailored coverage solutions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, brokers, and other stakeholders in the energy industry.
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and other factors that may impact risk assessment and underwriting decisions.
  • Collaborate with other underwriting and support teams to ensure efficient and effective underwriting processes.
  • Review and negotiate policy terms and conditions, pricing, and coverage limits in accordance with underwriting guidelines and company standards.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections as needed to assess risk quality and compliance with underwriting standards.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior underwriters and support staff as needed.
  • Maintain accurate underwriting records, documentation, and reports in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in insurance, Risk Management, Business, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in underwriting energy risks.
  • Strong knowledge of the energy industry, including oil and gas operations, drilling technologies, and risk management practices.
  • Proficiency in underwriting principles, risk assessment, and policy analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Professional certification such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Associate in Risk Management (ARM) is a plus.
