Job Description

Department Assistant (Construction Site Support)

Gladwin, MI (Onsite Only)

6-Month Contract

$18–$23/hour (OT eligible after 40 hours)

Schedule:

  • Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Must be able to support a 5/10 workweek and occasional weekends if needed
  • 40–50+ hours per week

About the Role:

We are seeking a Department Assistant to provide onsite administrative and project support at an active construction site. This role will be based in the field office and will involve coordinating with project coordinators, safety managers, and superintendents to ensure smooth daily operations.

You will assist with payroll processing, document control, onboarding support, and general office functions that keep the project running efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support payroll functions, including time entry, verifications, and corrections
  • Process new hire paperwork and track onboarding steps through orientation
  • Assist with document control and project recordkeeping
  • Manage office supplies, shipments, and deliveries
  • Support training, safety, and project coordination needs
  • Provide general administrative support to project management and site leadership

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 3+ years of administrative or coordinator experience (construction industry preferred)
  • Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word (Oracle experience a plus)
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced construction environment
  • Must be comfortable working onsite in a field office and occasionally outdoors

Physical & Work Environment:

  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50 lbs as needed
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including hot/cold temperatures
  • Noise levels typically low to moderate
  • Work boots required
