JOB DESCRIPTION

BHE GT&S has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Environmental Specialist/Environmental Specialist 2 or Environmental Specialist 3 at our Headquarters located in Glen Allen, VA.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities:

Associate Environmental Specialist:
Assists in scientific studies and projects related to water quality, cultural resources, and protected species or similar environmental programs.
Assists company and consulting teams on environmental projects such as NPDES, wetland and stream encroachment permitting studies or inspection surface and groundwater programs and environmental assessments.
Assists with report analysis data management and report preparation.
Assists in problem analysis and developing compliance strategies.
Assists in conducting training.
Assists in writing and editing reports related to environmental programs.
Trains engineering and construction staff on compliance with environmental permits.

Environmental Specialist 2:
Coordinates and ensures company programs and projects are in compliance with federal state and local environmental regulations and areas of concern.
Promotes corporate environmental policy by educating and assisting employees to seek innovative ways to ensure operational environmental compliance.
Coordinates environmental permitting activities for company facilities.
Develops and conducts environmental compliance training.
Inspects and provides advice on operations construction procedures records and training.
Ensures compliance with environment requirements prescribed by laws regulations company policies and company procedures.
Provides regulatory interpretations for new and existing environmental regulations.
Coordinates and develops compliance plans for implementing regulatory changes.
Prepares and coordinates reports and registration information to required regulatory agencies.
Conducts analyses, prepares position papers and prepares compliance manuals on regulatory issues.

Environmental Specialist 3:
Independently develops, implements, coordinates and oversees complex water quality programs and projects which relate to company compliance with federal state and local environmental regulations.
Writes and edits detailed scientific reports suitable for submission to regulatory agencies that evaluate long-term results from various system-wide quality programs.
Coordinates complex environmental permitting activities for company facilities and operations.
Provides regulatory and scientific expertise advice guidance and interpretation to company personnel which ensures or improves compliance with all water quality and land development requirements at company facilities.
Prepares and submits correspondence reports and testimonies to environmental regulatory agencies.
Independently develops, implements, coordinates and oversees complex water quality programs and projects which relate to company compliance with federal state and local environmental regulations.
Analyzes complex water quality data from monitoring sites in the system and provides assessment reports of potential problem areas that have probable impact to the company.
Coordinates complex environmental permitting activities for company facilities and operations.
Represents company before regulatory agencies industry groups and the public on environmental issues.
Reads, analyzes and interprets new and existing regulations.
Participates in developing new regulations from proposal to promulgation.
Develops and conducts environmental compliance training.
Inspects and advises on operations construction procedures records and training to ensure compliance with environment requirements prescribed in laws regulations company policies and company procedures.
Uses electronic databases to analyze and monitor company compliance with regulatory requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Associate Environmental Specialist:

Basic, working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations specific to the work location.

Basic, working knowledge of environmental operating permits and regulations specific to the work site, if responsible for contracted assets.

Basic written and oral communication skills.

Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Basic logic and reasoning skills, to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternatives, conclusions, or approaches.

Basic, respectful assertiveness, to ensure environmental compliance requirements are met by others, while considering the spirit and letter of the law.

Basic interpersonal skills, to interface with internal stakeholders effectively.

Ability to work under established policies and procedures.

Ability to meet set schedules and system or program requirements.

Ability to give full attention to others, to take time understanding the points being made, and to ask questions.

Ability to assist in preparing compliance and regulatory documents and reports.

Environmental Specialist 2:

3-4 years relevant experience.

Good working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations specific to the work location.

Good working knowledge of environmental operating permits and regulations specific to the work site, if responsible for contracted assets.

Logic and reasoning skills, to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternatives, conclusions, or approaches.

Respectful assertiveness, to ensure environmental compliance requirements are met by others, while considering the spirit and letter of the law.

Excellent interpersonal skills, to interface with internal stakeholders effectively.

Ability to give full attention to others, to take time understanding the points being made, and to ask questions.

Ability to influence others.

At least 5-7 years relevant experience.

Excellent interpersonal skills, to interface with internal stakeholders effectively.

Education: Bachelor (Typically four years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
