Job Description

The 2nd Shift Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the manufacturing operations on the second shift, ensuring production goals are met while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency. This role involves managing a team, coordinating production schedules, and resolving any issues that may arise during the shift. The position reports to the Plant Manager or Production Director.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervision & Leadership:

  • Manage and supervise the production staff on the second shift, including team leads, machine operators, and technicians.
  • Provide direction and ensure staff adherence to safety, quality, and performance standards.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment.

Production Oversight:

  • Oversee the daily production schedule, ensuring the team meets production targets and deadlines.
  • Ensure adherence to established processes, procedures, and work instructions to maintain consistent quality and efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, such as equipment malfunctions, personnel shortages, or material delays.

Quality Control & Continuous Improvement:

  • Monitor product quality and ensure compliance with specifications and industry standards.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance teams to maintain a defect-free product.

Safety Management:

  • Ensure all safety protocols are followed, and the work environment remains safe for all team members.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions to promote a safety-first culture.
  • Monitor and address any safety incidents or near misses during the shift.
  • Reporting & Documentation:
  • Maintain accurate shift records, including production reports, machine downtime, and safety observations.
  • Provide regular updates to management on production progress, issues, and employee performance.
  • Conduct shift changeovers effectively, ensuring smooth transitions and handoffs.

Resource Management:

  • Coordinate the availability of materials, tools, and equipment to prevent production delays.
  • Work closely with inventory and supply chain teams to ensure an uninterrupted flow of materials.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of machines and equipment during the shift.

Employee Development:

  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to production staff to enhance performance and skills.
  • Evaluate employee performance and provide feedback and coaching to foster continuous development.
  • Address any employee concerns, resolve conflicts, and ensure a collaborative work environment.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Business, or related field (preferred).
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Experience:
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience with shift-based operations, team management, and production scheduling.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality control, and safety regulations.
  • Proficiency in using manufacturing software, ERP systems, and MS Office.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.

Working Conditions:

  • Evening to late-night shift hours, typically from around 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM or later.
  • Occasional overtime required to meet production demands or resolve operational issues.
  • Exposure to a factory/warehouse environment with noise, machinery, and varying temperatures.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the production floor for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy items (up to 50 lbs).
  • Manual dexterity and ability to use tools/equipment as necessary.
