This is an entry level position involving technician work in a highway materials testing facility. General activities include the following: logging and preparing samples for testing; performing basic volumetric asphalt testing procedures; and entering test data into the appropriate reporting software program or database. This position will work in the Bituminous Mix Laboratory.

Role and Responsibilities

Specific job duties include:

1. Sample and prepare aggregates and other materials for asphalt testing
2. Batch and mix asphalt samples
3. Perform ignition oven and gradation testing on samples
4. Determine bulk specific gravity of asphalt mixture samples
5. Enter test information into the appropriate database
6. Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications and Education Requirements

High school diploma, or equivalent.

1. Ability to follow detailed testing procedures
2. Ability to maintain accurate data records
3. Ability to manage multiple work assignments simultaneously
4. Ability to operate a personal computer and use Microsoft Excel
5. Ability to communicate engineering information effectively
6. Ability to lift 50 pounds

1. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
2. Ability to maintain a safe working environment
3. Ability to use engineering tools, instruments, and equipment
