Attorney | In-house Counsel – Worker’s Compensation, Hybrid - Missouri

Location: Hybrid, Kansas City, St. Louis, or Springfield, MO area.

Must reside in MO due to occasional court appearances.

Salary: $130k annually DOE

Schedule: Full-Time, typically Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

This mostly hybrid role, with some on-site presence in Missouri , involves overseeing workers’ compensation claims litigation, handling a heavy trial and deposition schedule in Missouri courts, and collaborating with professional representatives and expert witnesses. An amazing opportunity for an experienced workers’ compensation attorney to work in-house and contribute to an innovative approach to reducing fraud in medical billing.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage workers’ compensation cases from intake to resolution, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.
• Handle appeals and navigate legal complexities to secure favorable outcomes.
• Conduct legal research on case law, statutes, and regulations.
• Negotiate settlements with opposing parties, insurance companies, and stakeholders.
• Prepare and file legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and discovery requests.
• Draft persuasive legal briefs and motions to support the client's position.
• Attend hearings, depositions, and mediations, interacting with all parties involved.
• Collaborate with paralegals and legal teams to develop trial strategies.
• Travel locally, in Missouri, as needed for court appearances, depositions, and hearings.

What We’re Looking For:

• Law degree from an ABA-accredited school and active Missouri Bar member in good standing.
• 5+ years of workers' compensation law and litigation experience in Missouri.
• Expertise in Missouri workers' compensation law, litigation, and legal risk management.
• Strong trial advocacy and appellate litigation skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
• Advanced understanding of state rules of evidence and civil/appellate procedure.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to manage large caseloads and meet deadlines.
• Effective communication with clients, opposing counsel, and ALJs.
• Strong analytical skills for complex legal issues.
• Capable of working independently and remotely, collaborating with professionals.
